A watermark can be your own words or a picture (a PNG of your logo serves well).
It goes across the middle of each page. With pages ticked in Page Management it is applied to those; with none ticked, to every page.
Re-encodes the pictures inside your PDF at a lower resolution. Text stays selectable and searchable — nothing is flattened — but photos lose some sharpness. Pictures that would come out bigger are left exactly as they are.
The file holds a password, so it has to be opened before it can be edited here.
The password is used in your browser to unlock the file and is not sent anywhere or kept. What you save from this editor has no password unless you add one again under Document → Password — keep the original if you want the locked version.
Locks the file you download with a password, using AES-256 — the same encoding Acrobat uses. Whoever you send it to has to type the password before it opens. Your work in the editor is untouched, and the editor itself is not locked.
At least 4 characters, and there is no way to recover it: lose the password and nobody can open the file, including you. Keep a copy without it.
Those two are a request to the reader rather than a wall — a few viewers ignore them. The password itself is real: nothing opens the file without it.
A protected file cannot be dropped back into this editor for further editing — this editor opens unlocked files only. Keep the unprotected copy if you may want to change it again.
